Blue Ridge Educational Center provides a structured, yet creative and flexible learning environment in Front Royal where students can enhance their academic skills and pursue their educational goals. We offer a small, nurturing environment serving students with a wide range of needs and abilities. We usually serve approximately ten students in our day program on a full or part-time basis.

Day Educational Program

Our day educational program provides instruction for students age 12-21. Each student's course of study is designed around his or her Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or Individualized Instructional Plan (IIP) goals, the Virginia Standards of Learning, and/or the curriculum taught in his or her home public school. Our teachers and Therapeutic Day Treatment (TDT) counselors are skilled at building therapeutic relationships with their students, helping students develop positive attitudes toward school, and encouraging learning through repeated academic success.

  • We provide academic and therapeutic services as defined by the IEP/IIP. Individualized instruction is based on the strengths, needs, and learning styles of each student.
  • Our classrooms are grouped by instructional levels. Our instruction is conducted individually or in small groups.
  • Our teacher:student ratio is 1:3 on average.
  • In addition to academic services, students participate in our Life Skills and Arts programs, designed to provide the knowledge and skills students will need when they exit the school system.
